Alex Burkart is thrilled to be joining the board of Colorado Thespians as the University and Scholarship Coordinator.  Currently he is the theater director at Cherry Creek High School, where he has been leading Thespian Troupe 1730 since January 2019.  Before arriving at CCHS, Alex had a career as an acting teacher in Los Angeles, CA with an active client base working in major film, television, and theater productions. Other previous teaching engagements include a visiting assistant professorship in theatrical performance at Beloit College, instructing the undergraduate Directing I and II sequence at Virginia Commonwealth University, and workshops at SETC and Adams State University.  Prior to teaching, Alex held a career as a professional theater artist, with his acting and directing work being seen across the country at various professional theaters.  He is also the author of four full-length plays, with his work EL CICLOPE receiving finalist status at the Eugene O’Neill National Playwrights Conference and finalist status with he Moss and Kitty Carlisle Hart New Play Initiative.  In 2022 he was the recipient of Cherry Creek School District’s Golden Heart Award for his work in CCHS’s Unified Theater.  He holds a BFA in Musical Theater from Webster University’s Conservatory of Theater Arts and an MFA in Theater Pedagogy from Virginia Commonwealth University and is a proud member of the Dramatists Guild of America.
